Pakistan’s bowlers tightened their grip on the three-day warm-up match against the West Indies, reducing the hosts to 268-8 at stumps on the final day after declaring their first innings at a commanding 455-4 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Still trailing by 187 runs, the West Indies were kept under pressure throughout the day as Pakistan’s bowlers struck at regular intervals despite determined resistance from Kavem Hodge and Tagenarine Chanderpaul.
Chanderpaul made a patient 51 before spinner Ali Usman broke his resistance, while Hodge fell eight runs short of a century after top-scoring with 92. Jyd Goolie remained unbeaten on 44 alongside captain Jomel Warrican, who was 24 not out at the close.
Mohammad Ali was Pakistan’s most successful bowler with three wickets, while Usman and Aamir Jamal claimed two apiece. Mohammad Abbas also chipped in with a wicket.
Pakistan had resumed the day on their overnight score before declaring after extending their first-innings total to 455-4, with Azan Awais and Babar Azam both retiring after scoring centuries.
Awais completed a patient 100 before retiring out, having shared a century partnership with Babar. The returning Test captain also reached three figures before retiring out after an authoritative knock.
Youngster Abdullah Fazal added an unbeaten half-century, while Salman Ali Agha contributed 46 and Mohammad Rizwan remained unbeaten on 44 as Pakistan comfortably crossed the 450-run mark.
