New Zealand international addresses his future with Wellington Phoenix

Wellington Phoenix star Sam Sutton insisted he is focused on the Isuzu UTE A-League season as he refused to confirm or deny whether he will still be at the club in 2025-26.

Sutton is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and there has been speculation over the New Zealand international’s future in Wellington.

The 25-year-old defender, however, told reporters ahead of Sunday’s match against Newcastle Jets: “Obviously that’s (speculation) always going to happen when you’re coming off contract.

Sutton – a five-time All White – has made no secret of his desire to play abroad.

When asked about playing overseas, the Phoenix academy graduate said: “The cream will rise and I’ll eventually get to where I want to get to.”
