Key player misses out as West Indies name squad for Sri Lanka

The West Indies have named a 15-player squad for their upcoming three-game T20I series at home against Sri Lanka.

The series is the first for the West Indies since their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign at the start of the year and the side have made a host of changes.

On the 10th anniversary of West Indies’ epic ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2016 win, Carlos Brathwaite and Ian Bishop take a trip down a euphoric night at the Eden Gardens.

Johnson Charles, Quentin Sampson and Jayden Seales are the trio to drop out of the squad, with Ackeem Auguste, Jewel Andrew and Shamar Springer added into the latest player group that will once again be led by skipper Shai Hope.

There is also no room for pace bowler Alzarri Joseph as he continues to be managed.

The series in Jamaica commences on June 11 and West Indies coach Daren Sammy is looking forward to see how his side shapes up.

“This series is an important one for us as it’s our first since the World Cup in India, where the team played with passion, fight and the togetherness that West Indies cricket is built on.

“Our focus now is to build on those foundations, continue growing as a team and make our fans proud with the way we compete against Sri Lanka.”
