Pakistani PM reaffirms commitment to sports for development, peace

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting sports as a tool for development and peace, emphasizing broader access and inclusion across the country.

In a message on the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the prime minister said sports play a vital role in fostering unity, resilience, and harmony among societies.

He noted that sports not only enhance individual abilities but also encourage a healthy lifestyle among youth, while promoting values of mutual respect and equality.

Sharif said the government is working to expand sports facilities, strengthen programs at the school and community levels, and provide athletes with greater exposure to international training and competitions.

Highlighting the achievements of Pakistani athletes, he said their success reflects both personal dedication and national unity.

The prime minister also called on institutions, sports bodies, and educators to work together to ensure that every child and young person in Pakistan has access to safe and inclusive sporting opportunities.
