Wasim Akram Set to Serve as Auctioneer for New PSL Teams

Newly appointed brand ambassador of the Pakistan Super League (PSL),  Pakistan legend Wasim Akram, will take on the role of auctioneer for the two new PSL franchises during the upcoming auction on January 8, 2026.

The announcement was made by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi at a press conference in Lahore. He stated that Wasim Akram will actively promote the PSL and be present at the auction, which is now the board’s primary focus.

Naqvi highlighted the strong investor interest in the new franchises and expressed confidence that the teams would be sold at competitive prices.

The PCB Bid Committee has shortlisted 10 qualified bidders from an initial pool of 12 proposals submitted by parties from around the world. These 10 bidders will now compete for ownership of the two new PSL teams at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.

The successful bidders will have the opportunity to choose their franchise locations from a list of cities, including Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, and Sialkot.

Regarding the Multan Sultans, Naqvi clarified that the franchise will be operated by the PCB for PSL 11, with plans to auction it after the season concludes. He also confirmed that if Ali Tareen successfully bids for a new team, he will be eligible to own it.

On the tournament schedule, Naqvi mentioned that the PCB is considering starting PSL from March 23 instead of March 26, with a final decision pending consultation with all franchises.

Additionally, the PCB chairman addressed recent international cricket developments, stating that a letter had been sent to the ICC concerning the conduct of Indian players during the Under-19 Asia Cup. He noted that if Indian players refuse to shake hands with Pakistani players, “we too are not eager for handshakes.”
