Cricket greats and friends of Shane Warne will join members of his family to lead the ‘tipping the hat’ moment at 3:50pm during each day’s play at the NRMA Insurance Boxing Day Test.
The timing is a nod to Warne’s Test cap number 350.
Day One’s tribute will be led by Ricky Ponting and Michael Vaughan while Isa Guha, Stuart Broad, Adam Gilchrist, Justin Langer, Ian Botham and Kerry O’Keeffe will also be involved over the course of the Test.
Fans are encouraged to wear a floppy hat and join in on the moment, paying homage to a look made iconic by Warne.
In addition to the tipping the hat moment, Cricket Australia and the Shane Warne Legacy (SWL) will continue to raise awareness of key health risks and diabetes.
Fans can take a free SWL Health Check at one of the 56 SiSU Health stations around the MCG – four more than last year.
The quick, self-serve check measures key health indicators such as blood pressure, BMI, body composition, resting heart rate and five-year type 2 diabetes risk using the AUSDRISK tool. For participants identified as higher risk, clinicians will provide an on-the-spot blood glucose and cholesterol check.
This year’s goal is 13,500 checks, building on last year’s 13,416. Since its inception, SWL has delivered 390,226 checks nationwide.
The SWL Health Checks are also supported by SWL founding partner, Latrobe Health Services, and SWL health partner, Diabetes Australia.
Todd Greenberg, CA CEO said:

“Shane gave so much to the game and brought a lot of joy to fans around the world and we are pleased to honour his legacy at his home ground – the MCG.
“The 3:50pm tipping the hat tribute to Shane will be a special moment each day and we thank all those involved including Shane’s family, friends and the cricket greats leading the way.”
“We encourage all fans attending to join in to honour Shane as well as taking a free Shane Warne Legacy Health Check at one of the 56 stations located in and around the ground.”
Helen Nolan, SWL CEO said:
“It means so much to all of us at the Legacy and Shane’s family to see Shane continued to be honoured during the NRMA Insurance Boxing Day Test.
“The ‘tipping the hat’ tribute is a goosebump moment. It’s a simple, powerful gesture that reflects the respect and love so many people continue to hold for Shane.
“Shane wasn’t just a once-in-a-generation cricketer; he was someone who connected with people no matter of their standing in the community, race or religion, and left a lasting impact on those that met him and even those who didn’t.
“By offering a free Shane Warne Legacy Health Check, we’re proud to carry forward the legacy he left on this world of wanting to make a massive difference.
“We encourage everyone to join us in taking a moment to remember Shane, tipping their hat, and taking that small but important step towards a healthier future.”
