A-Leagues club confirms interest in Mario Balotelli: ‘He would be great for us’

Isuzu UTE A-League club Perth Glory will attempt to sign 36-cap Italy international Mario Balotelli, NewsWire reports.

After revealing Balotelli’s interest in a potential move to Isuzu UTE A-League clubs last week, NewsWire has now identified Glory as an Australian club set to pursue the 35-year-old’s signature.

Balotelli is a free agent after a brief stint at Italian Serie A side Genoa.

Speaking to NewsWire, Perth Glory football director Stan Lazaridis said the club is looking into the prospect of bringing the former Manchester City, Liverpool, Inter and AC Milan striker to the Isuzu UTE A-League.

“He would be great for us and the A-League,” Lazaridis said.

“It’s a big thing to get a player of that calibre here but it’s been done before in the A-League with the likes of Alessandro Del Piero and Dwight Yorke. It’s maybe a long shot, but we are interested.”

Balotelli has been a free agent since the expiration of his contract at Genoa in June. He featured just six times for Genoa during his brief stint.

Last week, the UEFA Champions League and Premier League winner told NewsWire of his openness to hearing from Australian clubs, with the possibility of a “new experience” in the Isuzu UTE A-League an attractive proposition.

“I’m definitely very interested about playing in the A-League,” Balotelli said.

“It would be a new experience for me. Absolutely my door is open if clubs want to speak to me about coming to Australia.”
