Sydney FC confirm exit of championship winner after ‘two fantastic seasons

Sydney FC have announced the departure of US centre-back Jordan Thompson after two seasons at the club.

Thompson played 42 matches in the Ninja A-League and was a key part of the Sky Blues squad who clinched the Championship in the 2023-24 season, playing a full 90 minutes in the Grand Final.

Since her arrival, she ranks 19th in the competition for most minutes played, 16th for most passes and equal fifth for most clean sheets kept.

“After two fantastic seasons, we would like to bid farewell and say thanks to Championship winning defender Jordan Thompson who returns to the US to be closer to family,” Sydney FC wrote on Instagram.

“We wish Jordan all the best in the future and she is always welcome back at Sky Park.

Thompson took to Instagram to send an emotional farewell message to the club and its supporters.

“It’s hard to put into words what this place means to me,” she wrote.

“To play for such a historic club, in front of the most amazing fans, with some of the most incredible people I’ve ever met, has truly been the greatest gift.

“It’s been such an honor to play for this club. I love you forever Sydney, you’ll always feel like home. Thank you for everything @sydneyfootballclub.”

Thompson’s exit is the latest in an off-season of overhaul for the Sky Blues, with Ante Juric’s side also farewelling Shea Connors, Millie Farrow, Kyah Simon, Faye Bryson, Margaut Chauvet, Jasmine Black, Tahlia Franco and Beth Mason-Jones after missing the finals for the first time in the club’s Ninja A-League history.

So far, they’ve welcomed US goalkeeper Heather Hinz and Amelia Cassar, signed from the Western Sydney Wanderers, to the club.
