Young Wanderers defender signs multi-year contract extension amid breakout season

Western Sydney Wanderers defender Anthony Pantazopoulous has signed a two-year contract deal, extending his stay at the Isuzu UTE A-League club for the next two seasons.

The 21-year-old joined the club in 2023 and has enjoyed a breakout campaign under Western Sydney’s new head coach Alen Stajcic in 2024-25.

Pantazopoulos has made 14 of his 17 Isuzu UTE A-League appearances this season, cementing himself as an important member of the Wanderers’ defensive unit.

The young defender, who scored his first A-Leagues goal against Macarthur Bulls on New Year’s Day, says his love for the club and its fans made signing a contract extension an easy decision.

“My goal for the next two years is to keep learning from my teammates as it’s only going to benefit me and the team in the long term, this is the main goal,” he said.

“Playing for this club is special, whether you’re winning games and you go over to the RBB or you see the smiles on the little kids’ faces. It means the world to me as we give them enjoyment for the rest of the week. They can go to school or work the next day and they are happy. So having that kind of pressure lifts me, so I can give them that enjoyment.

Wanderers head coach Stajcic says re-signing Pantazopoulos signals the club’s intent to foster young talent.

“Re-signing Anthony is another sign of showing faith in our next generation of players who continue to underpin the improvement in our A-League Men’s team,” Stajcic said.

“I’ll be delighted to see Panta grow as this team evolves in future years.”
