AOC congratulates winners of Australian Sports Commission media awards

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has celebrated the winners of the 2024 Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Media Awards, held last night at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Outstanding coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Olympic sports scooped a raft of awards at the annual event, which recognises the outstanding contributions of media professionals in telling the stories of Australian sport and its athletes.

The Nine Network and News Corp were jointly recognised for their outstanding coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, bringing the passion, competition and emotion of the Games to millions of Australians.

Trailblazer Margie McDonald was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating more than four decades covering Australian sport that included four Olympic Games and 13 summer and winter Paralympics.

Photographer Delly Carr’s capture of Jess and Noemie Fox’s elation as the pair celebrated Noemie’s historic gold medal in the women’s kayak cross in Paris took out best sports photography, while Surfing Australia took out the award for best coverage of sport by an organisation.

AOC CEO Matt Carroll AM celebrated the invaluable role of the media in bringing the triumphs, challenges and journeys of Australian Olympians into households across the country.

“The impact of media in Australian sport cannot be overstated. From local grassroots competitions to the Olympic Games, the ability to inform, inspire and celebrate the achievements of our athletes is invaluable,” Mr Carroll said.

“The Olympic Games are about more than just competition; they are a celebration of human potential and achievement. Every athlete has a story, and it is through the dedication of our sports media that these journeys come to life for fans around the country, inspiring the next generation of athletes and sports fans alike.

“The AOC acknowledges all the journalists and broadcasters who bring these stories to Australians, and thanks the Federal Minister for Sport Anika Wells and the Australian Sports Commission for celebrating this vital contribution to Australia’s sporting landscape.

“Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, particularly Australian Olympic Team partners Nine and News Corp for their incredible efforts to bring the emotion and inspiration of the Paris Games into millions of Australian households.”
