Babar Azam on the verge of scripting history, need three runs to become first Pakistan batter to

Babar Azam has been the best Pakistan batter for years and has broken several records across formats in international cricket. He is close to becoming the highest run-scorer in T20Is.

The right-handed batter has amassed 4223 runs in 128 T20Is. In ODIs, he has accumulated 5957 while his runs tally in Test cricket is 3997 runs in 55 games. He is just three runs away from touching the 4000-run mark in the longest format of the game.

Babar will become the first Pakistan cricketer to score 4000 runs in red-ball cricket, 5000 runs in the fifty-over format, and 2000 runs in T20Is when he scores 3 runs in the series opener against South Africa.

Babar made his ODI debut in 2015. He was given T20I and Test caps a year later. Babar led Pakistan for several years but his performance as a captain came under the scanner after the team’s below-par performances in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

He resigned from the captaincy after the global tournament but was brought back for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Green were eliminated from the group stage, and Babar left the post once again.

Pakistan will play a two-Test series against South Africa starting December 26. The sub-continent team is already out of the WTC final race, but the Proteas can make it to the summit clash if they win the first Test.
