Macarthur set for big boost as Socceroo closes in on injury return: ‘Any day now I’ll be back’

Macarthur Bulls winger Chris Ikonomidis is closing in on a return to play following a knee injury that has kept him sidelined through the first nine rounds of the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

The Subway Socceroo joined the Bulls from Melbourne Victory in the off-season on a two-year deal, but is yet to make his club debut due to injury.

At half-time of Macarthur’s clash with Central Coast Mariners on Monday night, Ikonomidis spoke to Network 10 about his imminent return, and his frustrating start to life in Campbelltown.

“I’m tracking really well,” he said.

“I’ve been training really hard to get back to the same fitness level as the playing group. Any day now, I’m going to be in the mix. I’ve been training with the team for a week or two now, and any minute I’ll be back on the pitch so I’m very excited.

“It was obviously frustrating not being able to play the first few games with the boys, in front of our supporters and my new club. It’s extra sweet now that I’m close, and I’m super excited to start with the boys.”
