Jets keeper & Matildas defender learn length of bans after review of Round 6 red cards

Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Danielle Krzyzaniak and Adelaide United defender Matilda McNamara will both serve one-game suspensions after receiving red cards in Round 6 of the Ninja A-League season.

Football Australia’s independent Match Review Panel (MRP) convened on Monday afternoon to consider the two red cards brandished in Round 6 of the Ninja A-League season.

Jets keeper Krzyzaniak received her second red card of the season for a foul on Sydney FC forward Princess Ibini in the 12th minute of Newcastle’s clash with the reigning Ninja A-League champions at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.

The MRP determined Krzyzaniak committed the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity” and have dealt the Jets keeper a one-game ban – the minimum sanction for the offence.

Krzyzaniak will miss Newcastle’s home game against Brisbane Roar in Round 7 before being available for selection again against Canberra United on Sunday, December 29.

McNamara meanwhile will serve a one-game ban after receiving a red card in Adelaide’s 3-1 loss to Perth Glory on Sunday evening.

The Matildas centre-back saw red after pulling back Glory forward Kelli Brown as the last defender, preventing Brown from gaining possession from a long ball and driving toward goal for a one-on-one with the Adelaide keeper.

The MRP adjudged McNamara committed the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and handed the defender a one-game ban, ruling McNamara out of Adelaide’s Round 7 meeting with Melbourne City.
