Late drama as Western United win seven-goal thriller and heap pressure on Sydney FC

An 87th-minute Michael Ruhs goal earned Western United all three points in a dramatic 4-3 win over Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Sky Blues came from behind twice to equalise at 1-1 and 3-3 in a seesawing affair but Ruhs was the hero for the visitors in Sydney, finishing off a Western counter attack in the dying stages to snatch all three points for John Aloisi’s side.

Western United led early through Noah Botic before an Adrian Segecic brace sent Sydney into half-time leading 2-1; Western then mounted a second-half charge, with Abel Walatee and Rhys Bozinovski scoring the goals to overturn the deficit and give the visitors the advantage one again.

Sydney defender Rhyan Grant levelled it at 3-3 with a bullet header but there was more drama to come at Allianz Stadium as Ruhs came off the bench to fire Western to their second win of the season.

The Sky Blues have now lost two games on the bounce, and three of their last four games.
