Adelaide United legend breaks Reds’ A-Leagues record

Adelaide United great Isaias Sanchez has become the most-capped player in the club’s Isuzu UTE A-League history.

Isaias eclipsed fellow Adelaide legend Eugene Galekovic on the all-time appearance list with his 239th in the A-Leagues after being named in the starting line-up to face two-time reigning champions Central Coast Mariners on Friday night.

The 37-year-old Spaniard has established himself as a bonafide legend across two spells at Coopers Stadium.

Over the course of nine total years with Adelaide, Isaias has won four trophies – an Isuzu UTE A-League Championship and Premiership, as well as two Australia Cup titles.

The former Espanyol midfielder has also been crowned the Aurelio Vidmar Medallist on four occasions, while he was the Joe Marston Medallist in 2016.

Last month, Adelaide head coach Carl Veart said: “I’ve said it before: I think he’s the best player that’s represented the club over its long journey.”
