Adelaide United winger Ben Folami and Sydney FC goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares will both serve one-game suspensions for their respective red cards earned in Round 7 of the Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Football Australia’s independent Match Review Panel (MRP) convened on Monday afternoon to consider the two incidents.
Folami will serve the minimum one-game suspension for the offence, and will miss Adelaide’s Round 7 trip to face Central Coast Mariners before being eligible for selection once again against Sydney FC on Friday, December 20.
Devenish-Meares will also serve a one-game suspension after receiving a red card in the first half of Sydney FC’s clash with Central Coast Mariners on Sunday evening.
In what was his Isuzu UTE A-League debut, Devenish-Meares came outside his box to challenge Alou Kuol for the ball and clattered into the Mariners striker.
The MRP determined Devenish-Meares committed the offence of “denying the opposing team an obvious goalscoring opportunity” and handed the goalkeeper a one-game ban – the minimum sanction for the offence.
Devenish-Meares will miss his side’s clash with Western United in Round 8 and, like Adelaide’s Folami, will be eligible for selection again when the two teams meet in Round 9 on December 20.
