Sir Don Bradman holds the prestigious record for the most double centuries in Test cricket, with an incredible 12 to his name.
Recently, England’s former captain Joe Root has further cemented his place among cricket legends by equalling the double-century tally of Pakistan’s Javed Miandad and Younis Khan.
Root achieved this milestone with a stunning knock of 262 runs in the first Test of the three-match series against Pakistan in Multan. This exceptional innings propelled him into an elite group of cricketers who have recorded six double centuries in Test cricket.
With this feat, Root has surpassed notable names like Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, and Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas, showcasing his growing legacy as one of the modern greats of the game.
Root now shares the distinction of six double centuries with players like Kane Williamson, Virender Sehwag, Younis Khan, and Javed Miandad. However, the all-time leader in double centuries remains the legendary Sir Don Bradman, with a staggering 12 double tons.

Following Bradman is former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara, who recorded 11 double centuries, and West Indian legend Brian Lara, who scored nine.
Root’s monumental 262-run innings contributed to England’s massive first-innings total of 823 for 7 declared. England’s aggressive approach was on full display, with Harry Brook smashing an incredible 317*, Ben Duckett contributing 84, and Zak Crawley adding 78. England’s batting was not only dominant but also fast-paced, maintaining a run rate of 5.48, with the final ten overs producing 81 runs at a remarkable 8.10 runs per over.
In reply, Pakistan’s second innings got off to a disastrous start, with opener Abdullah Shafique falling on the very first ball. The home team is currently struggling, having lost five wickets with just over 50 runs on the board, as they battle to fend off England’s commanding position.
This latest milestone adds to Joe Root’s growing list of achievements, solidifying his status as one of the best Test players in modern cricket.
