Transfer Deadline Day: Socceroo’s City comeback, Bulls sign NPL gun & an international joins Roar

The final day of the Isuzu UTE A-League transfer window saw plenty of late moves, with several clubs making significant signings ahead of the upcoming season.

Here are the biggest moves up until 7pm AEST on Monday, September 16. Clubs have until 11:59pm AEST to complete all paperwork for their new recruits, with more updates expected by Tuesday.

7PM – Melbourne City Sign Subway Socceroo Nathaniel Atkinson and Israel International Yonatan Cohen
Melbourne City secured a double deal on deadline day, bringing Subway Socceroos full-back Nathaniel Atkinson back to the club on a three-year deal from Scottish side Hearts. Alongside Atkinson, City signed Israel international Yonatan Cohen on a one-year contract from Maccabi Tel Aviv.

7PM – Brisbane Roar Add Indonesian Attacker Rafael Struick
Brisbane Roar announced the signing of 21-year-old Indonesian attacker Rafael Struick from ADO Den Haag. Capable of playing as a number nine or on the wings, Struick is considered one of Indonesia’s brightest talents and joins the Roar on a free transfer.

5PM – Macarthur FC Sign NPL Victoria Striker Harrison Sawyer
Macarthur FC secured the services of prolific striker Harrison Sawyer from South Melbourne. The 27-year-old returns to the A-League after a successful stint in the NPL and abroad, having won the Hong Kong Premier League and the NPL VIC Premiership.

City Tease Two New Signings
Melbourne City hinted at two more signings to be announced later in the night. The club has already added Kai Trewin, Marco Tilio (on loan from Celtic), and several other players during this transfer window.

1:30PM – Wellington Phoenix Sign Versatile Midfielder Corban Piper
Wellington Phoenix confirmed the signing of 22-year-old Corban Piper from Birkenhead United after he impressed during a trial with the club. Piper’s versatility in both attacking and defensive roles caught the eye of Phoenix head coach Giancarlo Italiano.

1PM – Macarthur FC Strengthen Defense with Dino Arslanagic
Macarthur FC also bolstered their backline by signing former Belgium U21 international Dino Arslanagic. The 31-year-old defender brings experience from the UEFA Europa League and the Belgian Cup and most recently played in the Saudi Pro League.

9AM – Adelaide United Sign Goalkeeper Max Vartuli
Adelaide United added promising young goalkeeper Max Vartuli to their ranks on a three-year deal. Vartuli joins Adelaide after graduating from Sydney FC’s academy, where he’s been regarded as one of Australia’s top young shot-stoppers.

8AM – Newcastle Jets Secure Brazilian Forward Wellissol
Newcastle Jets confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Wellissol on a one-year deal from Brusque FC in Brazil. Wellissol brings international experience, having played in both South America and Switzerland.
