Earlier, the West Indies had won the toss and decided to bowl first against the United States.
After a clinical bowling display by the home side, the USA were bowled out for 128 in 19.5 overs after batting first.
Roston Chase had career-best figures of 3-19 in four overs. Andre Russell also clinched a 3-31 in the 3.5 overs.
To achieve career-best figures at home, surrounded by my parents and friends, is an exhilarating experience. Chase, who was named Player of the Match, said that if we don’t get too many wickets in the powerplay, it will be on the spinners to come back and pull the game back.
He added that it was his destiny and his goal to win the World Cup, so anyone we play we have to beat from here to go win it.
Andries Gous was the leading scorer for the United States, with a total of 29 runs in 16 balls. Nitish Kumar contributed 20 runs, whereas Ali Khan remained unbeaten with 14 runs in six balls.
Both teams suffered defeats in their respective opening Super 8 matches, rendering this a contest of significant significance.
