Here comes the future: Isuzu UTE A-League named one of the world’s best leagues in key area

The Isuzu UTE A-League has been named one of the best leagues in the world for Under-21 match minutes.

As young guns continue to shine, the league ranks second globally behind only the Serbian SuperLiga for percentage of match minutes given to players born in or after 2004, according to CIES Football Observatory based on current or last completed seasons in top 50 divisions worldwide.

With a percentage of 15.1%, the Isuzu UTE A-League is narrowly second to the Serbian SuperLiga (15.9).

It comes amid a busy January transfer window that has seen some of the league’s best young talent earn moves abroad.

Brisbane Roar sensation Thomas Waddingham, 19, and Sydney FC star Hayden Matthews, 20, have both been signed by EFL Championship side Portsmouth, while Macarthur Bulls duo Ariath Piol, 20, (Real Salt Lake, USA) and Oliver Jones, 21, (Randers, Denmark) were lured abroad.

Adelaide United’s 20-year-old star Archie Goodwin is also second in the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League Golden Boot race with seven goals.
