Young Matildas star earns December Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year nomination

Young Matildas defender and Melbourne City signing Alexia Apostolakis has earned the December nomination for the Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year award.

A standout defender in the Ninja A-League this season, Apostolakis has shone through her first 10 games at the club.

The 18-year-old has scored two goals already this season – including the Goal of the Week in Round 3 – and has not only claimed the December nomination for Boost Mobile Young Footballer of the Year, but was nominated for the competition’s December Shark Player of the Month award, finishing second in the votes behind Brisbane Roar star Tameka Yallop.

Apostolakis also claimed Melbourne City’s Player of the Month award in December. The defender made four appearances throughout the month and contributed to three wins and one draw as City remained unbeaten through the start of the 2024-25 Ninja A-League season.

Apostolakis was nominated via a panel appointed by the Australian Professional Leagues (APL). The panel features an assortment of media representatives and technical football experts, who vote on a 3-2-1 basis at the conclusion of each nominated monthly period throughout the season.

City are next in action on Saturday, January 11 in a mouthwatering battle against second-placed Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park.
