Western United goalkeeper Matt Sutton has been rewarded with a contract extension thanks to his “breakout season” in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
Sutton has signed a new two-year deal after establishing himself as Western’s number one shot-stopper in 2024-25.
The 24-year-old has started all 14 of Western’s matches this season as the Green and Black sit fourth in the standings heading into Sunday’s trip to Macarthur Bulls.
“I’m really excited to be re-committed to the club. To be able to put a few good games together this season along with the team feels really good,” said Sutton, who has made the most of his first opportunity for regular first-team minutes.
“We’re building something really special. The future looks really bright and obviously that’s why I’m stoked to be staying here for the next two years.”
Sutton joined Western United from rivals Melbourne City in 2023.
His extension comes after 18-year-old Alex Nassiep signed his first ever
professional contract at the club.
“Since joining us at the beginning of last season, Matt has bought into our club culture and values and worked tirelessly to earn his opportunities,” said Western general manager of football Mal Impiombato.
“His performances on the pitch have been of equal importance to his impact off the pitch amongst the group, and we have no doubt that influence will continue to grow positively in the coming years.”
