Western Sydney Wanderers sensation Akol Akon put on a show with a devastating hat-trick as the Subway Joeys eased past Saudi Arabia 4-0 at the Hattrick Under-17 International Tournament.
Akon scored three goals in 15 first-half minutes to lead Australia to a rout of the AFC powerhouse while making it two wins from two games at the tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
Venezia’s Max Anastasio broke the deadlock with a free-kick in the sixth minute before 15-year-old gun Akon produced a breath-taking spell prior to half-time after he was named in the starting XI alongside fellow A-Leagues prospects Henrique Oliveira (Macarthur Bulls), Besian Kutleshi (Western United), Alex Bolton (Perth Glory), Rhys Williams, Kade Baccus (Western Sydney Wanderers), Jonty Benfield (Melbourne City), Thomas Cutuk (Western Sydney Wanderers) and Zane Stevenson (Western Sydney Wanderers).
Akon made it 2-0 in the 31st minute and he was at the double three minutes later courtesy of another side-footed finish against the Saudis.
The teenager completed his hat-trick in first-half stoppage time as the Joeys now look ahead to their tournament finale against Oman on Monday, with the event serving as preparation for Australia ahead of the U17 AFC Asian Cup in April.
