Western Sydney Wanderers dealt Juan Mata blow

Western Sydney Wanderers will be sweating on the fitness of Juan Mata after the Spanish superstar succumbed to injury early in Friday night’s Isuzu UTE A-League clash with Brisbane Roar.

Mata lasted just 11 minutes before the former Manchester United and Chelsea playmaker hobbled off the field at Suncorp Stadium.

The 36-year-old appeared to suffer a hamstring injury after setting up Western Sydney’s eighth-minute opener in Brisbane, where he was later seen icing the area while sitting on the bench.

It is a blow after Mata had established himself in the Wanderers’ starting XI.

Mata had started six of Western Sydney’s last seven matches, scoring once and supplying two assists in that period.
