West Indies women’s cricket team to tour Pakistan

The much-anticipated schedule for the West Indies women’s cricket team tour of Pakistan, featuring a series of five T20 and three ODI matches, has been officially unveiled.

The West Indian women’s cricket contingent is set to touch down in Karachi on April 14, marking the commencement of a thrilling series comprising three one-day internationals and five T20Is.

In line with the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25, the itinerary includes three ODIs scheduled for April 18, 21, and 23, followed by five T20 matches slated for April 26, 28, 30, May 2, and 3.

Currently positioned at the third spot in the ICC Women’s Championship ranking with 16 points from 18 matches, the Pakistan Women’s team will lock horns with the ninth-ranked West Indies team, boasting 8 points from 12 matches.

In the ICC Women T20 Ranking, Pakistan holds the eighth spot, while West Indies sits sixth, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown between the two formidable sides.

Expressing warm sentiments towards the upcoming visit of the West Indies women’s team, Tania Malik, the head of women’s cricket, extended a hearty welcome, emphasizing the significance of hosting the series on home turf. She underscored the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) unwavering commitment to advancing women’s cricket and fostering opportunities for players to shine on the global stage.

Malik highlighted the pivotal nature of the series, citing it as a crucial stepping stone for Pakistan’s direct qualification prospects for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Additionally, with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on the horizon, the selectors are contemplating a 5-match T20 series against West Indies to fine-tune the squad for the mega event, building on the team’s recent commendable performances in the shortest format.

All ODI and T20I encounters between Pakistan and West Indies women’s teams are slated to take place from April 18 to May 3 at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

This series against the West Indies women’s team marks the concluding chapter of the Pakistan women’s team’s home fixtures for the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25, with the final leg of the championship set to unfold during the tour of England in May this year.
