Virat Kohli joins elite ODI batting club with innings against Pakistan

The Indian batting talisman has become only the third batter in ODI history to score over 14,000 runs.

India’s serial run-scorer produced a moment of history against Pakistan in India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Group A fixture by crossing the 14,000 ODI runs mark.

Kohli, who made his debut for India back in 2008 against Sri Lanka, becomes only the third batter in ODI history to do so after greats of the game Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.

The veteran batter crossed the milestone in his 298th ODI for India, and has 50 hundreds in the format to go with 73 half-centuries.

The 36-year-old isn’t new to carving records in the ODI format. At the Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023, Kohli had secured the all-time record for most runs in a single edition of the tournament.

As India went on a near-flawless run all the way to the final, the prolific batter finished with a whooping 765 runs from 11 matches, comprising three hundreds and six half-centuries.

During the tournament, Kohli had also surpassed former India skipper Sachin Tendulkar to become the first player with 50 centuries in the format.
