Sydney FC discover opponents for AFC Champions League Two Round of 16

Sydney FC will face joint Thai Premier League leaders Bangkok United in the AFC Champions League Two Round of 16.

The Isuzu UTE A-League title hopefuls discovered their fate on Thursday, with the Sky Blues to go head-to-head with Bangkok United across two legs in February.

Sydney booked their spot in the ACL Two knockout phase after finishing second in Group E, behind Japan’s Sanfrecce Hiroshima, while Bangkok United won their group.
Bangkok United – eliminated by Yokohama F.Marinos in the last 16 of the AFC Champions League Elite last term – finished second in the Thai Premier League last season, though they won the FA Cup and Champions Cup in 2023-24.

“I’m excited to play Bangkok United who are currently doing well in their domestic competition in equal first but second on the table,” said Sydney head coach Ufuk Talay ahead of Sunday’s clash at home to Western United.

“We don’t know much else about them just yet but we’ll do our homework and will definitely be ready.

“I’m sure it will be a difficult task but we are looking forward to the challenge and it will be an enjoyable experience as well.”
