Swans on a mission after horror GF leaves ‘bitter taste’

ERROL Gulden doesn’t need you to sugar coat it.

The Sydney star has watched replays of his side’s Grand Final capitulation against Brisbane and says not a day goes by without thinking about how it all went so wrong.

“Every single day,” the two-time All-Australian said on Tuesday of their 60-point loss to the Lions last year.

“And I’d say it’s the same for a large majority of the boys, and everyone involved in the club.

“What we could have done differently, why it happened, what were we thinking as a team, as an individual.

“Disappointment, resentment to how I performed, the team performed but a motivation and drive to really right those wrongs.

“You don’t have to sugar coat it … it was one of our worst games of the year.

“(But) our supporters don’t want to hear that we’ve just reviewed it, they want to see us put some stuff into action.”

Six weeks out from their season-opener against Hawthorn, Gulden reckons they’re well placed to do so after “bloody torture” under new coach Dean Cox.

“There was some stuff, you watch the game back and we hadn’t done that all year,” Gulden said.

“Mentally, what space were we in?

“There’s stuff we don’t want to give away to our opposition, but we’ve uncovered every stone.

“This is the most motivated I’ve been for a preseason … I’ve had that bitter taste in my mouth.”

Gulden last year extended his contract at the club until at least 2028 and chuckled at the speculation set to follow West Australian Chad Warner after his off-contract teammate recently purchased a house in Perth.

Cox has labelled Warner’s retention a “top priority”.

“It looks like a nice pad … nice holiday house for him,” Gulden smirked.

“I’m certainly doing my best (to convince him to stay) but it’s Chad’s decision.

“He’s wired differently Chaddy. He certainly won’t let it affect his footy.”
