Sialkot take lead thanks to Owais’s century

LAHORE: Thanks to the brilliant century of young batsman Azan Owais, Sialkot scored 319 for 6 in the first innings against Peshawar at the end of the second day of the first match of the tri-nation phase of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Sialkot have a 148-run lead over Peshawar. Peshawar were bowled out for 171 in the first innings. Sialkot started their first innings at 74 for no loss but lost their first wicket after adding four runs at the Abbottabad Stadium on Wednesday. Ashir Mahmood was dismissed by Amir Khan for 31 with the help of five fours. Abdul Rehman was dismissed for 28 runs with the help of four fours.

Azan Owais, who made his first-class debut in the same tournament, completed his second century with the help of 14 fours. He has scored 161 with the help of 23 fours and is not out. Earlier in this tournament, he played innings of 130 against Dera Murad Jamali, 78 against Quetta and 51 against FATA.

Azan Owais and Mohsin Riaz added 140 runs in the third wicket partnership. Mohsin Riaz, who had scored a double century against FATA in this tournament, was dismissed for 64 runs with the help of a six and eight fours to Amir Khan, who also took the wickets of Muhammad Waleed and Afzal Manzoor.
