In the recently concluded second ODI between Pakistan and Australia at the Adelaide Oval, the visitors levelled the series after they handed the Men in Yellow an embarrassing nine-wicket defeat. It also marked Mohammad Rizwan’s first win as full-time Pakistan captain.
Talking about the match, Haris Rauf shone with the ball and took a five-wicket haul that restricted Australia to just 163 runs. In reply, Saim Ayub, who was under the scanner after failing with the bat on his ODI debut, silenced the critics with a record-breaking knock.
Saim Ayub Whacks Australian Bowlers Across The Park
Ayub, who opened the innings with Abdullah Shafique, amassed 82 (71), which featured six sixes and five fours. Ayub failed to reach his maiden ODI century as he fell prey to Adam Zampa.
It is worth noting that Ayub, who was smashing sixes all across the park, also broke a long-standing record held by Mohsin Khan. Ayub now holds the feat for highest individual score by a Pakistani opener on Australian soil.
Earlier, Mohsin Khan held the record for his 81-runs-knock. Here is the list of the highest individual scores by a Pakistani opener on Australian soil.
- Saim Ayub- 82
- Mohsin Khan – 81
- Sharjeel Khan – 79
- Aamer Sohail -76
- Mohammed Hafeez -72
Ayub Misses His Century
It is worth noting that Ayub has played several Test games and T20Is already before making his ODI debut, but is yet to explode or win a match single-handedly. Nonetheless, this knock against Australia will give him confidence as he scored just 1 (5) in the first match.
Talking about Australia, they are in deep trouble as the series is tied 1-1 and the Men in Yellow have already announced major changes for the upcoming match as they will rest Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood. Further, Jos Inglis will lead the side in Cummins’ absence.
