Roar sign another Australian youth international with ‘all the tools to become a top GK’

Brisbane Roar have welcomed former Sydney FC goalkeeper Tahlia Franco to the club ahead of the Ninja A-League 2025-26 season.

Born in Western Sydney, Franco’s football journey began in the Canterbury Football Association before joining Sydney FC and signing her first Ninja A-League contract ahead of the 22/23 season.

The 19-year-old joins the club from the Sky Blues, where she made her Ninja A-League debut in January 2023 before helping the club secure the 2022-23 Premiership/Championship double, as well as the Championship crown in 2023-24.

Franco was first called up to the Junior Matildas in 2022, where she was pivotal in winning the AFF U18 Women’s Championship. She was then named in the Young Matildas squad to represent Australia at the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers.

Speaking on transferring to Brisbane, Franco said: “I’m excited to sign for the club this season.

“It feels like the right place to grow, compete, and contribute to success. I’m ready to give my best, develop my game, and help the team achieve something special. I can’t wait to get started.”

Franco is the second goalkeeper to have joined the Roar this off-season, along with CommBank Matildas shot-stopper Chloe Lincoln.

Roar head coach Alex Smith says he’s excited to work with the young keeper at the Roar.

“Tahlia brings A-Leagues and national team experience to our goalkeeping department,” Smith said.

“She has the desire to compete at the highest level possible and will no doubt help us this season. She has all the tools and ability to become a top goalkeeper.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with her.”
