Australia’s largest athletics team achieved their best-ever result in Paris since the 1968 Mexico Games.
Our track and field athletes were in top-form at the Stade de France embracing every moment in front of the spirited crowd.
Jess Hull’s silver in the 1500m on the final night of competition took the team’s medal tally to seven medals (one gold, two silver and four bronze) and was the 50th for the Australian Olympic team.

This surpassed the six medals won in athletics at Mexico 1968. Only at the home Games of Melbourne 1956 has Australia had more athletic success.
Nina Kennedy led the charge with gold in the women’s pole vault, with high jumpers Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson taking silver and bronze respectively.
Matt Denny stepped on to the podium to finish third in the men’s discus, while walker Jemima Montage took bronze in the walk before teaming with Rhydian Cowley to claim another in the team’s event.
A plethora of personal bests and semi-final and final qualifications, including Torrie Lewis (200m), Bree Masters (100m), Reece Holder (400m) and Connor Murphy (triple jump) and the men’s 4x100m, highlight the success of the Australian team.
