The left-arm pacer is likely to be named in the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He could make a surprising return for the upcoming ICC event after reversing his retirement decision. He is now training with the national team.

Pakistan’s T20I series against New Zealand in April and England in May ahead of the T20 World Cup could mark fast bowler Mohammad Amir’s return to international cricket. Regarding Amir’s potential comeback, former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja has offered his perspective on the pacer.

During his nterview with a Pakistani channel, Raja delivered a blunt statement about Amir, saying he would have disowned his own son if he had been caught fixing matches.

“My views on Mohammad Amir are clear. Though I have not pledged to fix the moral compass here, I believe it is very vital that our society comprehends this issue. He was representing his country.” commented Raja.

Raja also spoke about the media criticism after the incident.

“When Amir was fixing matches, I was commentating at Lord’s and felt the intense hatred coming in my direction. The media barraged us during that period; it left an indelible mark. Tainted layers like these are typically condemned worldwide,” added Raja.

“Cricket knows only black and white matter; there’s no grey area; it’s a fraternity of around 200 players. Concepts like forgiveness occur in a society. Though people sympathize and forgive, I cannot condone such actions. If my own son ever did this, I would have disowned him.” claimed Raja.

Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt were banned in 2010 for spot-fixing during Pakistan’s Test match against England at Lord’s. While all three players later returned to domestic cricket in Pakistan, only Amir was able to resume his international career.

If chosen, Amir will play for Pakistan in upcoming matches under the leadership of the newly appointed T20I captain, Babar Azam, who recently replaced Shaheen Afridi as captain.
