PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday announced the formation of an independent medical board tasked with assessing the handling of Pakistan paceman Ihsanullah’s medical situation by the PCB medical support team.

The board comprises experts such as Dr. Javed Akram, Dr. Rana Dilawaiz, and Dr. Mumraiz Naqshband. Its primary objective is to scrutinize whether the medical care provided to Ihsan Ullah was appropriate. Additionally, the board will propose a plan for his subsequent medical treatment.

Ihsanullah has traveled to the UK for further medical care for a long-standing elbow injury. The PCB has assured that it will cover all expenses related to his treatment, addressing previous concerns about funding.

The injury occurred in April 2023 during a series against New Zealand, initially deemed minor by the PCB. However, subsequent treatment, which involved gym and weight work, may have worsened the condition.

Updates on Ihsanullah’s condition were scarce until recently when Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen criticized the PCB for inadequate support and revealed the franchise had contributed substantially to his medical expenses. PCB’s chief medical officer, Dr. Sohail Saleem, refuted claims of mishandling but acknowledged a delay in diagnosis, which likely aggravated the injury.
