Pakistan’s Bano qualifies for final in MMA Asian Championship

LAHORE: Pakistani fighter Bano Butt secured her place in the finals of the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Asian Championship by defeating Indian competitor Khushboo Nishad in the women’s 47.6 kg category.

The semi-final victory has set the stage for Bano Butt to compete for the gold medal in the championship.

Speaking to the media after her triumph, Bano Butt shared that she had worked tirelessly in preparation for the event. Although her coach initially questioned whether she could compete as a senior, Bano expressed her desire to test her abilities beyond her junior category.

Reflecting on the competition, she graciously referred to her Indian opponent as being like an “elder sister,” but emphasised that friendship takes a backseat in the ring.

Despite not performing up to her own expectations, Bano confidently stated that she is determined to win the gold medal for Pakistan in the final. In another bout, Pakistani fighter Taimur Chishti faced a tough challenge in the junior welterweight (77.1 kg) category.
