Pakistani cueists continue dominance in Snooker World Cup

Pakistani snooker players Asjad Iqbal and Awais Munir have advanced to the quarter-finals of the IBSF Mongolia World Cup Men 2024 after strong performances in the Round of 16.

In a thrilling match, Asjad Iqbal made an impressive comeback to defeat Hong Kong’s Chang Yu Kiu 4-1. Despite losing the first frame 08-89, Iqbal bounced back to win the next four frames with scores of 74-62(62), 71-12, 57-46, and 71(68)-24.

Meanwhile, Awais Munir also progressed to the quarter-finals with a 4-2 victory over Chau Hon Man of Hong Kong. Munir lost the first frame 44-81 but recovered to win the second frame 80-08.

After dropping the third frame 17-65, he clinched the fourth frame 88-42 and won the final two frames 85(79)-05 and 66-34.

The quarter-finals are scheduled to take place tomorrow at 10 am local time. Iqbal will face Gao Yang of China, while Munir will compete against Ali Gharahgozlou of Iran.

In the group stages, both Pakistani players went unbeaten. Awais Munir secured a 3-1 victory over Iran’s Siyavosh Mozayani with scores of 9-63, 78-34, 59-50, and 73-13.

Asjad Iqbal defeated Qatar’s Ali Alobaidli with frame scores of 59-36, 26-63, 58-19, and 70-58. Their undefeated run helped them top their respective groups and secure spots in the pre-quarter finals.
