NPL goal machine joins Macarthur after lighting up Australia Cup

Macarthur FC has secured the signing of striker Harrison Sawyer from NPL Victoria’s South Melbourne on a two-season contract with the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Sawyer, 27, is making his return to the top Australian league for the first time since the 2016-17 season, where he made five appearances for Newcastle Jets.

During his time away, Sawyer has achieved notable success, including winning the Hong Kong Premier League with Tai Po Football Club and clinching the NPLM VIC Premiership with South Melbourne in 2022 and 2024. He has also earned two Golden Boots. His most recent campaign saw him net 16 goals for South Melbourne.

Sawyer’s return to the A-League comes amid South Melbourne’s strong performance in the Australia Cup. Although he scored the decisive goal in their 1-0 victory over Wellington Phoenix in the Round of 32, he will not be eligible to play against Macarthur in the semi-finals on September 22 at Lakeside Stadium.

Expressing his excitement about joining Macarthur FC, Sawyer stated, “Signing with the Bulls is a privilege and an honor. It feels like a reward for all the hard work I’ve put in. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s success, scoring goals, and winning matches.”

Sawyer describes himself as an aggressive and direct striker, aiming to make an impact in the box and support his team’s advancement on the field.
