Namibia reveal new captain for home League 2 tri-series

Long-time Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus will hand the captaincy reins to all-rounder JJ Smit for next month’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series against Oman and Scotland in Windhoek.

The three sides will play a total of six games from April 2 as part of the ongoing League 2 competition, with the top four teams at the end of the event earning a place in the main qualifying tournament for next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Namibia currently sit in sixth place on the League 2 standings and will need some positive results at home to keep in touch with the top four sides.

Smit will take the role of captain for the tri-series in Windhoek, with Namibia including debutants William Lottering and Zacheo Jansen van Vuuren in a squad of 15 players that includes a host of stars that featured in the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
