Melbourne Victory teen earns maiden Matildas call-up for historic SheBelieves Cup

Melbourne Victory star Alana Murphy has been drafted into the CommBank Matildas’ SheBelieves Cup squad as a replacement for Clare Wheeler.

Everton midfielder Wheeler has withdrawn from the historic four-nation tournament in the United States due to a thigh injury sustained earlier this week.

That has led to 19-year-old Victory midfielder Murphy earning her maiden Matildas call-up.

The teenage sensation has been a key player for Victory during the 2024-25 Ninja A-League season, scoring once in 15 appearances for the second-placed side from Melbourne.

The former CommBank Young Matilda is the second uncapped player in the Australia squad, alongside Brisbane Roar star Laini Freier.

Australia are taking part at the prestigious SheBelieves Cup for the first time this month.

The Matildas will face Japan (February 21), hosts USA (February 24) and Colombia (February 27).
