Nishan Velupillay is receiving treatment from his club Melbourne Victory after he did not travel to Bahrain for the Subway Socceroos’ crucial 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup qualifier.
Velupillay suffered an ankle injury in Australia’s tense 0-0 draw with Saudi Arabia at AAMI Park in Melbourne on November 14, in a blow for Isuzu UTE A-League leaders Victory.
Tony Popovic’s Australia are preparing for Wednesday’s (AEDT) match against Bahrain in Riffa and the Socceroos’ medical team confirmed Velupillay was sent for scans which revealed he would not be available for the upcoming fixture.
There has been no return to play timeline set as Velupillay returns to the care of Victory, whose medical staff will review the 23-year-old forward, who has scored twice in the A-Leagues this season.
It comes as Patrick Kisnorbo’s Victory gear up for this week’s Unite Round, where the 2023-24 Grand Finalists face last season’s Semi-Finalists Wellington Phoenix at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
