Melbourne Victory bring ‘powerful’ Aussie defender home after 4 years in Asia

Melbourne Victory have bolstered their defensive stocks with the signing of 29-year-old central defender Lachlan Jackson on an 18-month deal.

Joining the club from K-League 1 side Suwon FC, the former Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets defender returns to the Isuzu UTE A-League after spending four seasons in South Korea.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Lachlan to the Club,” said Melbourne Victory head coach Arthur Diles after the deal was made official.

“We have no doubt that Lachlan will strengthen our squad significantly going into the second half of the season.

“We expect Lachlan to make a strong contribution to the success of Melbourne Victory this season.”

Now 29, Jackson totalled more than 70 games during his time playing in one of Asian football’s top competitions and will add much needed depth to a Victory defence recently shorn of Socceroos defender Jason Geria.

“After four seasons abroad, it was the right time to return to Australia and I’m looking forward to working with such a quality team and coaching staff with the aim of securing points every week,” said the new Melbourne Victory man.

Jackson will now join up with his new Melbourne Victory teammates and could be available for the Round 17 away fixture with Perth Glory, subject to international clearance.
