CommBank Matildas interim head coach Tom Sermanni revealed Football Australia is waiting on clearance from FIFA for Melbourne Victory captain Kayla Morrison to represent Australia.
American-born star Morrison was considered for the upcoming international friendlies against Brazil and Chinese Taipei as 15 Ninja A-League players were called into the Matildas squad, including Victory team-mates Alex Chidiac and Emily Gielnik.
A two-time A-Leagues champion, the 28-year-old defender has spoken openly about her dream of representing the Matildas as she tries to switch international allegiances, though she has never played for the United States.
“We’re just waiting for FIFA,” Sermanni told reporters when asked about Morrison.
“We’ve put all the paperwork – it’s all gone in.
“It’s just a question of us just waiting to see when and if that comes back positively, then we can move on from there.”
Morrison has started all three games for Victory this season, including Sunday’s 4-1 rout of rivals Western United.
An A-Leagues All Star in 2023-24, Morrison scored three goals in 23 appearances last term.
Victory, who are second in the standings and a point behind reigning premiers Melbourne City, are gearing up for a blockbuster showdown with Central Coast Mariners during Unite Round on November 23.
