Match Review Panel confirms length of ban for Jets keeper after send-off in Glory defeat

Newcastle Jets goalkeeper Danielle Krzyzaniak will serve a one-game suspension after receiving a straight red card in her side’s 3-2 loss to Perth Glory in Round 2 of the 2024-25 Ninja A-League season.

Krzyzaniak was sent off in the 68th minute of Newcastle’s away defeat to Perth, after handling the ball well outside the penalty area after Kelli Brown’s long-range attempt on goal.

On Monday afternoon, Football Australia’s independent Match Review Panel (MRP) convened to consider the incident and determined Krzyzaniak had committed the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed in Law 12 of the Laws of the Game.”

The MRP has handed Krzyzaniak a one-game suspension as a result – the minimum sanction for the offence.

Krzyzaniak will miss Newcastle’s home game against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday, November 17 but will be eligible for selection once again in Round 4 when her side takes on Western United.

Krzyzaniak’s red card was one of two send-offs to occur in the A-Leagues over the weekend; in the Isuzu UTE A-League, Sydney FC defender Hayden Matthews saw red after two yellow card offences in the first half of his side’s 2-1 loss to Macarthur Bulls.

Matthews is required to serve a one-game ban as a result of the indirect red card, which means the young Sydney centre-back – who just last week was called into his first Subway Socceroos camp – will miss the Sky Blues’ blockbuster clash with Western Sydney Wanderers in Unite Round, after the international break on November 23.

The 20-year-old will be eligible for selection again for Sydney’s next game after the derby against Central Coast Mariners on December 8.
