LSG Owner Sanjiv Goenka Writes Special Message For Record-Breaker Matthew Breetzke

2025 has been witness to the most extraordinary start made by any cricketer to their ODI career, as South Africa’s Matthew Breetzke has been breaking records left, right and center, smashing one record after another.

In February, Breetzke became the first batter in ODI history to post a 150+ score on ODI debut, hammering 150 against New Zealand in Lahore. Seven months and four innings later, there seems to be no stopping the right-hander as on September 4 (Thursday), the 26-year-old became the first batter in ODI history to post a 50+ score in each of his first five innings.

After five innings, Breetzke has now amassed 463 runs, and his scores in the format read 85, 88, 57, 83, 150.

On the back of his match-winning contribution against South Africa in the second ODI on September 4, which helped the Proteas to a series win, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka wrote a special message for the youngster.

“Matthew Breetzke breezes into the record books. The first player in ODI history to score fifty-plus in each of his first five matches, a stunning display of consistency. Well done Matty,” Goenka wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

At the IPL 2025 auction, Breetzke was purchased for INR 75 lakh by LSG. Notably, he plays for Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) in the SA20. In his five-match ODI career, Breetzke has already helped the Proteas win ODI series away in both Australia and England.
