Canadian tennis star Victoria Mboko could not quite get past veteran Karolina Muchova of Czechia on Tuesday (24 March) at the 2026 Miami Open, falling at the women’s singles quarter-final stage in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(5).
Muchova, 29, has been enjoying a strong start to her 2026 campaign, having made it to the fourth round or better at the four tournaments she’s played thus far. She’ll now play in Miami’s semi-final on Thursday (26 March).
In the opening set on Tuesday, Mboko matched Muchova early, as they traded steady holds through to 5-4.
Muchova, then, found herself down 0-30, but responded with four straight points to push the set to five games all. Mboko looked tight in her next service game, and Muchova capitalised, taking the lead for the first time in the match.
The Czech needed three set points to close out on her own serve, but finally overcame Mboko to claim the opener.
The second set was another close battle, with the Canadian saving a break point in the opening game to stay on serve through six games all, sending the set into a tie-break.
There, it was Muchova who seized control early, grabbing an opening mini-break and never relinquishing the lead.
Muchova will play USA’s Coco Gauff next following her 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic.
