Kane breaks record with four goals in Bayern’s 9-2 Champions League win

Bayern Munich’s star striker, Harry Kane, made Champions League history with a stunning performance, scoring four goals in a 9-2 win against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.

Kane’s incredible feat included a hat-trick of penalties, setting a record for the most penalties scored by a player in a single Champions League match.

The English forward opened the scoring with a 19th-minute penalty, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record to become the highest-scoring English player in European Cup history, now boasting 33 goals. Kane’s four-goal haul also brought his tally to 53 goals in just 50 appearances for Bayern Munich.

Expressing his surprise at taking three penalties in one game, Kane said, “It’s the first time I’ve ever had three penalties in one game. It was a different feeling for me, but to score four goals is fantastic.”

Kane’s remarkable night was complemented by two goals from France winger Michael Olise, making his Champions League debut. Bayern’s nine goals in the match set a new record for the most goals scored by a team in a single Champions League match.

Although Dinamo Zagreb managed to score twice after halftime, Bayern quickly regained control, with further goals from Kane and Olise. Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka also found the back of the net, while several goals by Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, and Kane were disallowed for offside.

The match tied for the second-highest scoring game in Champions League history, standing alongside Monaco’s 8-3 win over Deportivo La Coruna in 2003. Borussia Dortmund’s 8-4 victory over Legia Warsaw in 2016 still holds the record for most goals in a single match.

Adding to the historic night, Bayern’s Thomas Muller made his 152nd Champions League appearance, surpassing Barcelona legend Xavi for the most appearances for a single club in the competition.

Kane’s remarkable start to the season now includes nine goals in just five games for Bayern, following a hat-trick in a 6-1 Bundesliga victory over Holstein Kiel over the weekend.
