Japanese defender joins Roar after 6 seasons as an NPL star: ‘Easiest decision I’ve ever made’

Brisbane Roar have signed Japanese defender Momo Hayashi from NPLW QLD outfit Gold Coast United ahead of the 2024-25 Liberty A-League season.

The 29-year-old has spent the last six seasons at Gold Coast, where she made 107 appearances and scored 30 goals.

Hayashi won both the NPL Player of the Year and Players’ Player awards in 2023 as well as Gold Coast’s Player of the Year award, earning a place in Football Queensland’s Team of the Season.

Ahead of her first Liberty A-League campaign, Hayashi said it was a dream come true to receive an offer to play for the Roar.

“It was the easiest decision I’ve ever made,” Hayashi said.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing in the A-Leagues, so when I received an offer, I was super excited. I’ll do my best to see how far I can go in this league and to help my team. I’m excited to face new challenges and improve my skills on the field.”
