Namibia secured a thrilling victory over Oman in their T20 World Cup Group B clash in Barbados, with the match decided by a super over. David Wiese starred for Namibia, scoring 13 runs in the super over and then limiting Oman to 10 runs, sealing the win at Kensington Oval.

The game reached the super over after both teams ended their 20 overs with identical scores of 109. Ruben Trumpelmann’s four-wicket haul had Oman dismissed for 109 in 19.4 overs,

but Oman’s bowlers fought back, with Mehran Khan delivering an exceptional performance. Khan took three wickets for just seven runs in his three overs, including two crucial wickets in the final over, to push the game into the super over.

David Wiese’s heroics continued in the super over, where he added three more runs off the next two balls. Namibia’s skipper, Gerhard Erasmus, then hit consecutive fours, setting a challenging target of 22 runs for Oman.

Taking over the bowling duties, Wiese started brilliantly, conceding only two runs from his first two deliveries and then taking the wicket of Naseem Khushi. With Oman needing 18 runs from the final ball, Wiese allowed Zeeshan Maqsood to hit a six, knowing that victory was already secured for Namibia.

Reflecting on the intense match, the 39-year-old Wiese remarked, “I definitely aged a couple of years tonight, and I don’t have a lot of years left in me. It was an emotionally draining evening.” He expressed his confidence in steering Namibia to victory with both bat and ball during the super over.

David Wiese reflected on his performance, saying, “It helped that I had a feel of the game and knew if I got a few hits in the super over… then with the ball, I felt confident in executing. The pitch was difficult and didn’t play the way we expected, but we adapted well.”

Oman captain Aqib Ilyas lamented the narrow loss but defended the decision to choose Bilal for the super over instead of the in-form Mehran Khan. “I think Bilal is one of the best bowlers at this level,” Aqib said. “But there are days when plans don’t go as expected. He was clear, we were clear, but maybe the ball was wet, and he couldn’t execute.”

Earlier in the match, Ruben Trumpelmann gave Namibia a dream start by taking two wickets with the first two deliveries, ultimately securing a four-wicket haul. David Wiese also impressed during the regular 20 overs, finishing with figures of 3-28 off 3.4 overs.

Namibia struggled in their run chase, with Jan Frylinck (45) and Niko Davin (24) top-scoring. Despite their efforts, the Southern African side fell just short of their victory target, pushing the game to a super over.
