More than 250 fundraisers, including singer Beverley Knight, braved the fury of Storm Claudia to sleep rough for charity.
The annual event in the Stan Cullis Stand at Molineux, the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers, was held overnight on Friday.
While the West Midlands was battered with wind and heavy rain the weather failed to stop play, with the club’s official charity, The Wolves Foundation, sayings its seventh sleepout had attracted more participants than ever before.
Organised by Wolves Foundation, the event has so far this year raised £34.4k of a £50k target.
Knight said in a story posted on Instagram that, despite it “absolutely hammering down”, she wanted to lend her support.
“There are a lot of people in this country who don’t have the luxury of saying, ‘oh well I’ve done that for one day, I’m going to go home now’,” she said.
Wolves FoundationWolves fans and community volunteers brought cardboard and blankets to create makeshift beds on the floor and on seats, to recreate the conditions faced by those sleeping rough for real.
Many on social media applauded their fundraising efforts given the stormy conditions, with one fan writing: “Well done everyone for braving this awful wind and rain.”
Wolves FoundationThe club said people were also invited this year to join the sleepout virtually from their homes or gardens.
Proceeds from the event also go towards Good Shepherd Wolverhampton, which helps homeless people in the city.
