Girls’ hockey revival gains pace in Islamabad

Girls’ hockey in Islamabad is witnessing a strong revival, with increasing participation from schools and colleges. An exhibition event held at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium marked a key step toward promoting the sport among young female athletes.

The event was inaugurated by Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mohyuddin Wani, who commended the enthusiasm and talent of the participating players. Wani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to youth and sports development under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, emphasising that special attention is being given to enhancing sports opportunities for girls.

“Girls have a promising future in sports,” he said. “The Ministry of IPC is ensuring that government schools and colleges across Islamabad are equipped with modern sports facilities to nurture young talent.”He further noted that continuous efforts are being made to create a healthy, inclusive, and motivating environment for girls to excel in sports and represent Pakistan at higher levels.

In the exhibition matches, Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) G-6/1 defeated IMCG F-7/2 by 1–0, while Army Public School (APS) Humayun Road, Rawalpindi edged Bonita Club by 1–0. The clash between Islamabad Girls Hockey Club and IMCG G-6/1 ended in a draw.
